In the first film of the series, Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Watson (Nigel Bruce) are called to an ancestral manor to investigate a century-old curse on the Baskerville family before it falls on Sir Henry Baskerville (Richard Greene) who has just inherited the building. In my opinion, the best pairing the Conan Doyle stories have ever seen. Holmes is portrayed as he was written - cocaine and all, while Watson is at his bumbling best in the hands of Bruce.
